New or First Time Passport
To obtain a New or First Time Passport you must meet the following requirement:
- You are applying for your first U.S. passport
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago
Once you visit our office and have all the supporting documents, you must appear in person at a Passport Acceptance Facility, and get a sealed package. This sealed package needs to be dropped at our office to start the process.
When making your appearance, you will pay a Government Fee and a separate execution fee. They will put all of your documents including your check and original documents in a sealed package, and hand it back to you. This sealed package needs to be dropped at our office to start the process.
The Government Fees can be paid via Checks (personal, certified, cashier’s, traveler’s) and money orders payable to “U.S. Department of State”. Credit and debit cards CANNOT be accepted
The Execution Fees can be paid via Personal checks, money orders and credit/debit cards.
How to Apply
- Do not sign the application until instructed to do so.
- You must provide a Social Security number, if you have been issued one, in accordance with 22 U.S.C. 2714a and 22 C.F.R 51.60(f)
You must submit one of the following. Your evidence must be an original or certified copy. Photocopies and notarized copies are not acceptable.
- Fully-valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired)
- U.S. birth certificate that meets the following requirements:
- Issued by the city, county, or state of birth
- Lists your full name, date of birth, and place of birth
- Lists your parent(s)’ full names
- Has the date filed with registrar’s office (must be within one year of birth)
- Has the registrar’s signature
- Has the seal of the issuing authority
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Certificate of Citizenship

You must present one of the following identification documents (IDs).
- Fully-valid U.S. driver’s license
- Fully-valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired)
- Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
- Government employee ID (city, county, state or federal)
- U.S. military ID or military dependent ID
- Valid foreign passport
- Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular Identification, commonly used by the parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant)
- If you have a copy of your flight itinerary or ticket, please include it.
- If you do not have a travel itinerary or a ticket, it’s okay.
- Passport photo services available at our offices.
- Must be 2″ x 2″ on a white background.
- Photo must not be older than one month.
In the event that you changed your name due to marriage or divorce, you will need to bring in a certified copy of your marriage certificate or a court decree that shows your name change.

Do I need an appointment to apply for a new passport at Sameday Arlington?
No appointment is needed. Our Arlington office at 1420 N Cooper St, Suite 108 accepts walk-in clients Monday to Friday from 8AM to 12PM. Arrive by noon and we file your application the same day.
Who qualifies for a first-time passport application?
You qualify for a first-time passport if: you have never had a US passport before, your previous passport was issued when you were under 16 years old, or your previous passport was issued more than 15 years ago. If your previous passport was issued within the last 15 years and you were 16 or older, you qualify for renewal instead – which has a simpler process.
